The real genius of EcoBoost is not the direct injection (many other engines have this), but the turbochargers. Ford took turbos, which have been an expensive and complex part of only high-end engines and made them available for general use. The direct injection allows for more precise mixing of air and fuel. This allows the engine to compensate for the traditional problem associated with turbocharged engines: turbo lag. That is, since the compressors on a turbocharger run off of exhaust gases, there is a momentary delay between when you press the accelerator and when the engine begins emitting enough gasses to spin the turbo. Careful mating with the DI system mitigates this, but it is still the turbo that is the primary fuel-saver.

Don't get me wrong I'm for sustainability..............but what does that mean?

Ford gained sympathy for not accepting money from the bailout. But Ford has received federal money in the past for things.

let me be the first to say "Thank You" from all Americans that don't have to pay future taxes to help re-launch a failing American Auto company. And, the fact that Ford is thinking more sustainable than most other US Auto companies is a huge plus. From the company that made the car popular.
