Halloween may be long gone but this amazing series of mechanical insects would make the perfect addition to a creepy costume. Crafted from old watch parts and light bulbs, the crawlie pieces are assembled together from salvaged materials by jeweler Justin Gershenson-Gates. Whilst experimenting with the idea of dissecting old watches, the Chicago-based designer stumbled upon this cool style and has since created a whole batch of mechanically-inspired insects! Click ahead to see more photos of these inventive, quirky sculptures.

The insects and arthropods are assembled from various sections of the salvaged devices, and are built up over several hours. Gershenson-Gates reuses the gears, straps, and springs from watches and reshapes them by soldering them into their new form.

Featured on Etsy, the sculptural spiders, scorpions and more are an inventive way of giving watches a second life. See the jeweler’s facebook page for even more images of these excellent designs.
