It seems that New York City’s reputation as a melting pot extends to its 6-legged creatures as well. A species of invasive Asian cockroach was spotted for the first time on U.S. soil at the city’s High Line park. Identified as the periplaneta japonica, the immigrant bug is known for its ability to withstand extreme cold, a trait that differentiates it from the American cockroach.
