The building, which has been dubbed “Schlump ONE [2],” was built as a plain, drab administration building in the 1950s. J. Mayer H. Architects completely gutted and renovated the building, expanding the original structure so that it can fit as many as four tenants per floor. When the expansion was completed, a central atrium was added, which brings natural light [3] into the building’s interior.

A new white skin featuring a wavy pattern with soft edges was added to the building’s exterior. The rounded edges are echoed in the interior design, which features stark white walls and soft, organic shapes. Similar forms can be seen in the handrails in the stairways, and the built-in molding in the rental units. The gut-rehab was completed in 2012.
