Jaguar Unveils Sexy C-X16 Hybrid Coupe at the Frankfurt Motor Show

The Jaguar C-X16 is different from most hybrid [11] vehicles because it is not entirely concerned with fuel efficiency [12] — it just wants to go fast — but achieves those ends in a cleaner way. Most of the car’s power comes from a newly developed V-6 [13] engine that produces 375 horsepower. This system alone can take the C-X16 from zero [14] to 60 miles per hours in a little over four seconds. [15]
The electric motor attached to the transmission [16] runs off a 1.6 killowatt-hour lithium ion battery. This battery [17] is charged by a kinetic energy recovery system that is also used in Formula 1 [18] racing cars. The kinetic energy given off by the vehicle [19] is stored in the battery for later use under acceleration, for which the C-X16 features a shiny red button on the steering wheel [20]. One touch of the push-to-pass button and the car will boost [21] 50 to 75 miles per hour in acceleration without emitting [22] harmful gases or burning up fuel.
The frame of the car is an homage to the super stylish Jaguar coupes [23]of the past. This particular concept vehicle is the smallest coupe [24] Jaguar has made since the XK120 in 1954 and closely resembles the wildly famous E series Jags from the 1960′s and 1970′s (think Austin Powers [25]).
The two seater [26] design makes the vehicle small and compact, emitting lesser amounts of C02 [27] and allowing for engine shut-off at idle. Its size and weight make it one of the greenest [28] (and certainly fastest) sports cars in existence. Though no one from Jaguar is speaking up about putting the car into production [29], viewers have noticed that every aspect of the concept vehicle [30] is technologically feasible. The Jaguar C-X16 may hit the roads earlier than we think.
