Tokyo-based Sueshiro Sano comes from a long legacy of shipwrights – however he’s using his skills to design and produce beautiful bespoke wooden bicycles. Sano’s bicycles are crafted from Honduran mahogany, and their carefully carved frames do double duty as functional works of art.
Sueshiro Sano custom builds each lightweight wood bike over a period of three months. Since each bike is tailor made using time-honored woodworking techniques, they can cost up to $20,000. Sano’s homepage notes that he was born as the third son of the Sano Shipyard, a 200-year-old business. He has been constructing wooden ships since he was a teenager, and now he’s using his knowledge of shipbuilding to craft these stunning wooden bicycles.
