JDS Architects Propose a Spiraling Bicycle Museum for China’s Future Bike City

JDS Architects designed this extraordinary spiraling Chongming Bicycle Park for a competition to create the future Bike City in China. The museum, multi-purpose hall, and visitor center comes complete with an exterior helix for cyclists to ride down. If built, the incredible Bike City is expected to attract people from all over the world and it could become the country’s newest landmark design.
JDS incorporate renewable energy into their design for Bike City, with large swaths of solar panels covering the circular sides of the visitors center, which marks the park’s entrance. “The Bike museum will be the flagship of the park. It will function as a double helix,” writes JDS Architects. “Bikes can be used for the ride downwards on the exterior part of the helix. The multi-purpose hall is seen as a hilly island.”
The future park sounds like an amazing way to encourage social awareness and cycling, as well as presenting new advances in biking technology. Its purpose is to promote everything associated with bikes and cycling and how two-wheeled transportation is evolving. We’re huge fans of cycling here at Inhabitat, and we can’t wait to see how the competition and park unfold!
