In the fall of 2011, baby care company Johnson & Johnson announced that it would soon be phasing out all harmful chemicals from its products. The announcement came in response to a study published by Campaign for Safe Cosmetics titled ”Baby’s Tub Is Still Toxic,” as well as pressure from other environmental and consumer advocacy groups. But J&J’s announcement wasn’t followed by much in the way of action. Now, a year later, the company has again announced that it will remove chemicals from its products. The only difference? This time J&J appears to have a plan and timeline in place, promising to remove all “chemicals of concern” by 2015.
