Julie Dodd Sculpts Delicate Nature-Inspired Artwork From Layers of Recycled Paper

Julie Dodd ^[6] constructs incredible paper sculptures ^[7], installations and books from recycled paper, forming nature-inspired pieces from the pages. The British artist often recreates patterns she finds in the natural environment, and crafts her delicate works through a long process of detail and precision. Responding to environmental news about the forest-clearing or climate change, Dodd creates stunning works that comment on a particular issue. For example, her paper eggs are a delicate response to the decline of migrating birds due to a loss of habitat through the changing climate.

These paper egg sculptures ^[8] are particularly beautiful, created entirely from layers and layers of pages glued together until they form a wood-like consistency. Dodd then carves them into egg shapes to reveal the layers beneath like the natural rings found in wood. Dodd says that recently as well as recycling books she has begun to recycle magazines which she finds to be a disposable product in society. She says she likes to create something that can last longer than the magazine’s life-span.
