Looking for a last-minute holiday gift for the nature-loving guy or gal on your list? Inhabitat favorite Juniper Ridge just launched a brand new line of wildcrafted soaps and scents that capture the grandeur of the great outdoors in a tiny bottle. Their new liquid Trail Crew Soaps and Backpacker’s Colognes are made with ingredients sustainably harvested from the deserts of San Jacinto to the forests of the Pacific Northwest, and they donate 10% of all profits to organizations that protect wilderness areas, making their products great gifts that give back to the environment.

Juniper Ridge makes their soaps and scents using old-fashioned techniques that incorporate “juice presses, converted whiskey stills, steam, and crazy copper pipes“. Their freshly relaunched site and clean, modern packaging mirrors their approach to making simple, pure products that smell exactly like the wilderness they come from. It’s been a while since we checked in on Juniper Ridge, so we were happy to recently receive a parcel in the mail with a sampling of their newest products.

Juniper Ridge’s Trail Crew Soap is a made from tree pitch, plant sap/juice, and steam distilled essential oils – the bottle of Big Sur they sent us has an intense amber color that looks like it was tapped straight from a tree. A sniff of the bottle gives a hint of sage – which bursts into a lush landscape of California greenery once it is introduced to water. It’s not overly sudsy, although it is very concentrated and it leaves a lasting cadence of coastal trails long after its been washed away.

We also received a sample of the company’s new Siskiyou Cedar Backpacker’s Cologne, which is extracted from Northwest conifers using pre-industrial perfume techniques and mixed with organic sugar cane alcohol. It has a fantastic fresh, green scent reminiscent of split cedar branches with an effervescent, almost lemony edge. On the whole, it’s a fantastic bath of products – and we can’t wait to see what Juniper Ridge cooks up next.
