Kammok, a Texas-based manufacturer of light-weight camping hammocks, just unveiled their new Glider shelter – which is not only weatherproof and heat reflective, but has an innovative built-in rainwater retention system [2] that that can fill a one-liter bottle in less than 30 seconds. The company recently launched a Kickstarter campaign [3] to raise funds for further development of the groundbreaking technology behind their Glider Shelter.

The Glider’s patent-pending, built-in rain retention technology is based on an innovative material called Amphibiskin which is not only extremely durable and lightweight, but is also completely weatherproof and heat reflective. Rainwater [4] is funneled through natural rain gutters into flexible water bottles, which provide drinking water in emergency situations. In heavy rainstorms, the Glider can fill the company’s 1- Liter FlexiPOD water bottles in less than 30 seconds.

The shelter, named after Sugar Gliders-small gliding possums- whose wings include natural catenary curves, can pitch taut with minimal effort while providing multi-directional support for rainwater collection. The BPA-free bottles [5], specially designed for the Glider, are filled with water that flows through patent-pending water bottle connectors.

The Amphibiskin material is created using high tenacity fiber technologies and is siliconized for additional strength, with waterproof and heat reflective finishes. Campers can pitch the Glider with the dark side facing the sky when it rains, or turn the reflective side towards the outside to stay cool when it’s hot and sunny.
