This stunning LED chandelier lit up this year’s BKLYN Designs with a stellar low-energy lighting solution for light emitting diodes. Recent Pratt graduate Kenzan Tsutakawa-Chinn wowed attendees at the BKLYN Designs show with his constellation chandelier, which takes the form of a gorgeous starburst, breaking LEDs free from their circuit-mounted domain.

It’s an exciting time for LEDs as advancements in technology are constantly rendering them brighter and more efficient. Once relegated to the province of circuit boards and instrument panels, light emitting diodes have become wonderfully suited to ambient and direct lighting applications, as evinced by Tsutakawa-Chinn’s beautiful lamps at the Pratt Institute‘s booth.

The free-form hanging lamp is composed of 364 warm white LEDs clustered at the tips of 91 copper tubes. Each slender sheave of light is bound at the base for an elegant effect that emits a shower of warm light. Tsutakawa-Chinn said that the chandelier consumes about as much electricity as a 20-watt light bulb, and it runs on 12 volt power. He is seeking UL approval for the lamp this fall, and we hope to see these on the market soon thereafter!
