Kia Unveils Boxy New All-Electric Naimo Concept at Seoul Auto Show

Kia unveiled their latest all-electric concept crossover vehicle , the Naimo — which literally means “square shape” in Korean — at the Seoul Motor Show this week. The sporty car, which features a glass wraparound windshield and suicide doors — we are suckers for suicide doors — is the Korean automaker’s third electric concept car in the past year. Unlike some of their other ideas — like the futuristic Pop concept — this electric car seems more grounded in a commercial reality. Fear not though, this commuter design has some sneaky elements that add interest to this functional four door.
The Naimo’s Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor is powered by dueling 27kWh lithium-ion polymer batteries and it has a 125 mile per charge range. The car ‘s exterior is remarkably smooth and actually has no windshield wipers — it uses air blasts from the engine to clear water from the glass. It features dotted LED lights at the front and rear that offer extra visibility and a bit of futuristic glitz. The company says it can be charged up to 80% in just 25 minutes (a full charge takes 5 1/2 hours).
Kia also uses handcrafted materials on the interior, including floors and doors trimmed in Korean oak. “The uncomplicated overall design is accentuated by a number of striking key details, such as the wraparound windscreen and asymmetric sunroof design, and the front and rear dot-style LED head- and positioning-lamps,” a statement by Kia says. “This juxtaposition of simple and complex is a common trait of many traditional Korean arts and crafts.” We have to say, we’re a little enamored by the Kia Naimo — pronounced “nee-mo”, like the fish — concept vehicle . Its jaunty real-world style and quirky details have us wondering if this is the Kia EV concept that will become a reality.
