Kids’ Learning Centre in Thailand Looks Like a Giant Bamboo Manta Ray

Located within Thailand’s [8] Koh Kood Island and steps away from the sea, this gorgeous learning ‘den’ was made by 24H-architecture in collaboration with local firm Habita architects [9]. Measuring 540 square feet, it shelters an auditorium for films, lectures and plays. The space also featues a library with permaculture and local traditions books, and an art, music and fashion room for entertaining and creation.
A sleeping pod for toddlers was also designed on-site, while outside there is a vegetable garden where children can learn about where their food comes from. The learning center was constructed from Thai bamboo [10], and the interior is made from River Red Gum wood that was harvested from a local plantation and rattan structural elements. The dome is shaped like a Manta ray [11] not only for aesthetic reasons; it acts like a big umbrella providing shade and protection from the heavy rains, while allowing a natural airflow and plenty of natural light in.
