Festivals and beer go hand in hand – and the wait in line for the nearest port-o-potty is usually a long one. To address the issue, French design firm Faltazi has created the Uritonnoir – a straw bale-like urinal that turns urine into nutrient-rich compost.

    @Anothervoice, you\’d be amazed how many kinds of chemicals composting processes can digest, as long as the compost pile is at least 1m x 1m x 1m (and from the photo above it looks big enough). About the only thing they can\’t deal with is heavy metals, which are toxic in their most basic elemental forms. If people are pissing dangerous levels of heavy metals in the hay, we\’ve got *much* bigger problems than weather a composting urinal works.

    I don\\\’t suppose anyone has screened that \\\”healthy\\\” compost for hormones, medications or illicit chemistry – where do you suppose all the aquatic mutations are coming from?
