Cherokee Mixed-Use Lofts: LEED Platinum Award Winning Design
Posted By Evelyn Lee On July 29, 2011 @ 4:11 pm In Architecture | No Comments
The Cherokee Lofts is a triple diamond in the rough, an urban infill, mixed-use, market-rate housing project. One of the key factors of the award winning LEED Platinum design is the ever changing movement of its streetscape elevation. The changing façade was inspired by a series of paintings by British artist Patrick Hughes titled, Perceptivity, whose paintings appear to be physically moving and continually shifting while being viewed. The individual owners of each unit are given the freedom for occupants to adjust, at will, the operable screens of the building façade, altering the way light fills the interior of their home.
The Cherokee Lofts is the first LEED Platinum Certified building in Hollywood and is the first LEED Platinum Certified mixed-use or market rate multi-family building in Southern California. Architects, Brooks + Scarpa (formerly Pugh + Scarpa), took every consideration to incorporate energy efficient measures when and whenever possible while considering the history of the site. The development pays homage to the significant musical and Hollywood history of Cherokee Recording Studios that one stood in the Loft’s place. Artists who recorded music on site include grates such as Frank Sinatra , David Bowie , and Dave Matthews .
