We love pre-fabricated homes, but sometimes it's simply not practical to go prefab all the way. Such is the case with Marmol Randzinger's Hollywood Hybrid. Cut into a steep slope in the Hollywood Hills above Runyon Canyon, it was necessary for the firm to combine a little on-site construction with their usual prefab goodness. But they haven't abandoned their overall commitment to sustainability at all. The result of this prefab-on-site marriage is a very attractive three bedroom home that is LEED Gold Certified.

Marmol Radzinger incorporates natural light and insulating glass into all of its designs to ensure that their sensible but warm homes have a low carbon foot print. They use only “responsible” timber – meaning either FSC certified – and solar panels.

Other green features can be added depending on the client’s level of commitment to sustainability, and as an added bonus, the firm only uses the most energy efficient appliances in their homes, ensuring that the relatively large home (2,576 square feet) won’t have a massive electricity bill going forward.
