Why use living animals to produce leather when you can produce it in the lab? Modern Meadow, a Missouri-based startup that  seeks to combine regenerative medicine with three-dimensional printing to synthesize leather, is starting the conversation. Modern Meadow’s proposed mode of leather production could be beneficial for animal welfare, and it could require fewer toxic chemicals during the tanning process.
