Paying homage to the past, LAR‘s new design for a mixed-use residential and office building takes on a massive shape reminiscent of the site’s Mayan ancestry. The towering pyramid, which is located in Mérida, the largest city in the Yucatan Peninsula, isn’t just an aesthetic marvel. It was also designed smartly to maximize the facade per square foot for each residence and has green features to reduce its energy usage.
The stepped-back terraces allow for plenty of sunlight to get reach all the vegetation that lines each floor, while naturally reducing the building’s overall cooling requirements. Additionally, rainwater capture minimizes water consumption and solar panels help with the electricity bills. Connecting the historical pyramids with today’s contemporary energy efficiency technologies, LAR‘s Pyramid honors the past while looking forward to Mexico’s future.
