Gallery: A New “Metro” for Bikes in Los Angeles


Riding a Bike in Los Angeles is currently a dangerous proposition – there’s too many cars and too few bike lanes. The LA Bike Working Group Backbone Bikeway Network(s) is taking the city to task on future bike infrastructure upgrades with this proposal for an interconnected bicycle freeway. The community-driven proposal would create a series of bike paths and signals along major thoroughfares, making bicycling a breeze whether you’re riding around the block or traversing the entire city.

    Hi, this isn’t a recommended route map, but a map of routes we’d like to see the city build. Most of these street are major boulevards, and most are pretty dangerous for cyclists now. The current route map is at:
