Leonardo DiCaprio Buys New Green NYC Digs

It’s not always our style to point out celebrity lives but when they involve a super green, LEED Gold rated building [5] with stellar views across the Hudson River it gets our attention. The New York scoop is that the three-time Academy Award-nominated actor/environmentalist Leonardo DiCaprio has found shelter in Riverhouse [6], one of NYC’s greenest condominiums.

Riverhouse is definitive luxury eco-living. Built on the last patch of land in Rockefeller Park, the structure integrates ambitious green principles with sought after real estate. On the outside, a high-tech solar photovoltaic [7] grid traces the sun’s daily trajectory for maximum solar energy efficiency. Open roof areas will be a complex of green roofs [8] that are 75% covered in vegetation. Inside, locally sourced renewable materials [9] are finished with low- or non pollutant paints and adhesives to bring down overall environmental impact and provide healthy living spaces. Air and water are also given top priority – owners will enjoy twice filtered air and on-site filtered water.
On the luxury living side Riverhouse has all the amenities one would expect in its posh NY locale. Among them a 50-foot lap pool, fully equipped fitness center, dog spa, in-house branch of the New York Public Library and, for Riverside residents looking to live in an even more sustainable world, in-house activism opportunities via the Action Center to End World Hunger [10] on the building’s ground floor.
