Korean smartphone maker LG has finally announced a phone that promises to free us from the horrors of scratched smartphones. One of the world’s first curved smartphones, the G Flex innovates one step further by offering self-healing, protective coating. In a press release, LG likens the protective coating to Wolverine’s self-healing powers and says that any light scratches on the G Flex could be self-repaired in mere minutes.

Unlike flat smartphones, the G Flex will be vertically curved from top to bottom. The new shape was engineered to better fit the curvature of the average user’s face and will create better ergonomics for making calls and watching videos. In addition to improved sound levels and viewing angles, the new phone will also offer superior grip and fit more comfortably in the back pocket.

To protect the phone from daily wear-and-tear scratches, the G Flex will be covered in type of protective elastic coating that will keep the phone “looking newer longer.” The six-inch Android phone will use a flexible OLED screen to achieve the dramatic arc and will be powered by a curved 3,500 mAh battery. The G Flex will also feature a 720p display with a Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM and a 13-megapixel camera.

G Flex will be available in Korea starting in November with limited international release to be announced.

From the article, “Korean smartphone maker LG has finally announced a phone that promises to free us from the horrors of scratched smartphone screens.”

The self healing special coating is only on the case and has nothing to do with the screen as the article implies.

    From LG’s press release:

“Among the several new technologies, the LG G Flex is the first smartphone to apply a “Self Healing” coating on the back cover. The elastic coating has the ability to recover from the daily wear-and-tear scratches and nicks that un-cased smartphones are likely to receive, keeping the G Flex looking newer longer.”
