Gallery: LichtAktiv Haus is the Energy Efficient Home of the Future

The windows and skylights have been placed by light designer Peter Andres, to meticulously maximize daylight- making it appear like electric lights. Artificial lights are not needed at all during the day. The home is also has an automatic system, powered with solar energy, to control blinds, roof windows, and awnings- raising and lowering at various points of the day.

    This is a great example of the potential to make even the most traditional of homes energy and water efficient. The shell of a building is generally seen as a constraining factor for retrofit projects. The LichtAktiv Haus shows that in fact they can become advantages. The new, large windows open up the house to the outdoors and build off of natural elements of light and heat.
