Gallery: LIGHT READING BOOK LAMP by Sam Johnson

Sam Johnson’s Light Reading is a low-energy compact fluorescent lamp ingeniously disguised as a book. It is meant to nestle in between other books on your bookshelf and remain invisible until illuminated: when turned off it blends right in with your other books, but switched on, it emits a bright white light which reveals its title. Made from a material called ‘Secret sign’ (by Perspex), the low-energy fluorescent fixture ensures that you won’t use much energy and the book lamp won’t ever overheat (and damage your other books). We love the way Light Reading puts a clever new spin on the concept of reading lamp. $149 from GNR8

Where can I buy this lamp. I am fascinated by it. I leave in Montreal, Canada. Is there a representative in Canada?

[...] The lamp I read about in a blog from Inhabitat.com gave a whole new meaning to the words light reading. This is because the lamp itself is named Light Reading by its creative designer, Sam Johnson. This lamp is cleverly designed resembling a book and meant to be installed in between paperbacks neatly put side by side in your bookshelf. When its power is off, the lamp looks like an ordinary book; when the power is on, it gives off a brilliant white light. The lamp is made from ‘Secret sign’, a material made by Perspex. The best part about Light Reading is that it’s a low-energy fluorescent lamp which doesn’t cost too much to utilize.            [...]

Does this use batteries? That would be more aesthetically pleasing than using a cord.
