london, lights off, event, lights out [1]

Sydney started it, with massive success, and now London is getting into the act. The Lights Out London [2] campaign is inviting londoners to turn off their lights for one hour, between 9p.m. and 10p.m. on the 21st of June (the Summer Solstice). They are hoping to become the largest climate change event ever recorded whose only request is to switch off.

The Sydney event [3]was a resounding success. It was a sight to behold to see the a good chunk of downtown Sydney, including the iconic opera house and harbour bridge slowly turning off their lights against the backdrop of the evening sky. Energy Australia reported that Sydney experienced a 10.2 per cent fall energy consumption double of what they were expecting. Here’s hoping that the London event is as big, if not bigger, success.
