Lotus recently unveiled its Evora 414E Hybrid concept, a sleek supercar that looks ready to take on the fabulous Tesla Roadster. Lotus has impressed us in the past with green technologies ranging from the omnivore engine, to the Eco Elise, and it looks like they are ready to get serious about fuel efficiency. Set to be debuted at the Geneva 2010 Auto Show, the vehicle has an extended range of 300 miles and features two electric motors capable of rocketing the vehicle from 0-60 in 4 seconds.
As we get closer to the 2010 Geneva Auto Show we’re excited to see concept vehicles that promise us to be faster, better, cheaper, and if the past holds true, greener. The Evora 414E is a range-extended electric vehicle that meets all these criteria. It features Lotus’ Verstaile Vechile Architecture, developed specifically to reduce costs in new vehicles. A pair of electric motors give the car its nimble acceleration speed, and when it needs the juice a 35kW 1.2 litre petrol engine produces electricity for the battery pack. The full range of the vehicle (hybrid mode) is around 300 miles.
The car stores electrical power in a 17 kilowatt hour battery that gives it a range of 35 miles on electric mode alone. As a final touch, the car is equipped with a HALOsonic vehicle sound generator, to help alert pedestrians when the very, very quiet vehicle approaches. The Evora will be formally announced at the Geneva Motor Show, beginning on March 2. No word yet on whether Lotus has plans for mass production.

Great to see that there are more people stepping up iin the right direction for eco friendly cars- but when can we get these out of the super expensive show room and into our garages. It’s great to dream, and make a prototype- but that’s simply self serving. Think about the greater good, car companies!
