Lotus Reports That It Will Bring Its Ethos City Car Concept to Market in 2014
Just after our recent Tesla Roadster test drive in Silicon Valley, we saw not one but seven Lotus sports cars being tested on the 680N freeway in the East Bay and wondered what Lotus is up to these days. Well, not only is Lotus coming out with the new supercar and sports car revealed at the most recent Paris auto show; its also building its new City Car Concept and plans to put it on sale by 2014 as the Ethos.
Lotus plans to build about 1,500-1,800 Ethos in the first year and pricing is expected to be around $40,000. Lotus CEO Dany Bahar also told CAR magazine that the Ethos could be sold as a hybrid or an electric vehicle, so the car may either be switched to a hybrid or offered in two versions by 2014. The Ethos will be made in Malaysia and sold under Lotus’parent company Proton’s label. We just hope they keep the nice design details of the concept car, such as the camera-style sideview mirrors, the special rims, and the flat door handles. It’s hard to imagine anything under the Proton label being worth $40,000 to anyone otherwise.
