LED lights are integrated into the exterior of the art house — a modern addition to the historic structure that brings the building into visibility at night. The architects envisioned the building to stand out from its urban environment, creating a “visual dialogue” between its contemporary exhibitions and the neighborhood around it.
Many of the original features have been maintained, such as the Queen Theater’s murals and exposed wooden ceilings. A roof deck provides a great space to look down onto the city below and is lit up by light boxes during outdoor movie screenings. With a grand suspended staircase constructed to hang 35 feet from the ceiling, the space has been carefully created so that its modern features complement the original design.
