Rome-based Solenica wants to bring the sunshine into your life – literally. For anyone who has dreamed of more sunlight in those dank, dark areas in the home, this brilliant little device – dubbed Lucy – is about to make that fantasy a reality. Lucy works by bouncing sunlight into your space using a solar-powered mirror that follows the sun, reflecting sunlight wherever you need it, all day long.
Every home has a corner that is so far from the sunlight, it practically feels like living in a cave. A spot like that can be particularly uncomfortable in the winter, when sunlight is a precious commodity, but it can be downright depressing for people who suffer from seasonal affective disorder.
The concept was created by Diva Tommei, who developed SAD after moving from Italy to New England for her PhD. Just place Lucy in the window and aim her where you want extra sunlight. The little light-bouncing robot is solar powered, so it requires no plugs and it turns itself on and off at the beginning and end of the day. And if you are worried about having a clunky eyesore in your home, don’t worry. Lucy is sleek and minimal and can easily be moved whenever you need.
