Ma Modular was started by the design/build firm KRDB, whose mission is to make modern design accessible and affordable. Their prefab modular homes start off at $140 per sf and each project is all-inclusive – meaning the house is delivered to your site with fully equipped with plumbing, electrical fixtures, and appliances. They take care of the design, engineering, specifications, delivery and installation. The only thing you have to prepare is the site.
The Blanco River House is one of their latest completed projects – it’s a 3 bedroom, 2 bath house totaling 1,400 sf. The two-module home features private rooms in one module and an open floor plan living/kitchen/dining area in the other. The two modules form an L-shape, and the living areas are bolstered by a backyard covered deck that expands the living space by 600 sf. The home features ten-foot ceilings, carefully placed windows, and large sliders that bring daylight in. Green building features include 2×6 exterior walls, high-efficiency Gerkin windows with thermally broken frames, a Galvilum double-lock standing seam metal roof and an Energy Star high-efficiency Heating/Cooling system. This home came in at $192 per sf, which isn’t quite “affordable” in our book, but for a custom prefab home, it isn’t out of reach either. Considering the home is so efficiently designed and compact, this price still works.
