The Mashpi Rainforest Lodge is a stunning modern retreat tucked away in the depths of the Ecuadorian cloudforest. Located in the midst of the enormous Mashpi Rainforest Biodiversity Reserve, the minimalist building is a beautiful green haven which blends in with the surrounding tropical vegetation. Architect Alfredo Ribadeneira collaborated with interior designer Diego Arteta to create a space where guests could be immersed in the cloudforest while making minimal impact on the surrounding environment.

The newly opened lodge is nestled at 3,116 feet high in the Ecuadorian Andes nature reserve, close to the capital city of Quito. Much of the structure was pre-assembled in Quito and transported to the site to minimize disruption to the surrounding rainforest. The structure’s metal base is encased with glass walls and simple materials, ensuring that guests to the lodge can always look out over the breathtaking scenery.

The interior was designed to reflect the natural surroundings and many of the materials were locally sourced, such as the red panels lining the corridors, made from nearby iron-rich earth. The modern design includes some subtle, elegant features including wooden bedheads embedded with hidden LED lights. The interior furnishings pair local Equadorian crafts with contemporary luxury, with some suites including pieces from Donghia and Phillipe Starck bathtubs.

The lodge comes complete with a jacuzzi and boutique, and surrounding the space are trails, crystalline natural pools, a terrace, and an Observation Tower to explore. Future plans for the site include a two-kilometer gondola which looks out over some incredible views.
