Mayor Bloomberg and Governor Cuomo Acknowledge Relationship Between Climate Change and Hurricane Sandy

Just one day after Hurricane Sandy made landfall on the eastern coast of the US, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and NY Governor Andrew Cuomo gave frank statements in which they acknowledged the relationship between recent extreme weather events and climate change [5]. Cuomo compared the storm systems that have hit New York to experiencing “a 100 year flood every two years,” and that the city will have to take preventative measures such as the construction of levees and storm surge barriers [6] in an effort to prevent such flooding from occurring in future storms.
