Gallery: Meraki Rolls Out Solar-Powere...

Fans of Meraki‘s innovative approach to accessible wifi will be excited to know that they recently unveiled a solar-powered wifi repeater capable of providing people in remote locations with access to the internet! Perfect for resorts, national parks, and rural areas, the elegant device is easy to set up, completely energy-independent, and runs on a state-of-the-art solar-charged battery.

The Meraki solar repeater consists of a mesh radio, a solar panel and a pole mount. Installation is easy, since each unit is completely self-contained and requires no additional power. The device strikes us as the perfect way to bring internet connectivity to developing areas of the world, although unfortunately its price is fairly prohibitive – units range from $900 to $1500. Still it’s a great idea that can bring the bring the internet to remote areas without the need to invest in heavy infrastructure.

Maybe the cost of the unit is expensive however it’s not cheap to run a hard line to these locations either.
