Michael Jantzen recently unveiled plans for this futuristic Solar Science Center, which is powered by photovoltaic solar cells and dedicated solely to the science of the sun. The public space is topped with a sun-tracking set of solar panels that stand an impressive 160 feet tall. During the day the satellite dish-inspired tower follows the movements of the sun, absorbing its energy, and then any excess energy not used by the center would be collected and distributed through the local power grid.
The center is also designed to incorporate passive solar heating and cooling and collect rainwater through its roof. The central spire feature an observation deck, and it’s ringed by a green roof featuring trees and circular benches for visitors to take a rest in the shade. A large LED screen would also be located near the top of the structure for media exhibits dealing with solar science, helping to appeal to visitors to spread interesting information about the sun.
