Milan 2009: Philips Debuts Ledino Lighting Collection

As part of the Euroluce [5] exhibition at the Milan Furniture Fair [6], Royal Philips Electronics [7] showcased a wide range of cutting edge LED lighting products. Our favorite designs on display were part of their newly debuted Ledino collection [8], an extensive range of stylish indoor and outdoor fixtures [9] that provide 80% energy savings over standard incandescent bubs [10]. The lights have a very low wattage and minimal CO2 emissions [11], but it is much more than their energy efficiency that makes these lights notable.

The Ledino line is an impressive showcase of LED technology [12], and we are not the only ones who think so – the Ledino table lamp was awarded the prestigious “Lights of the Future [13]” award. The sweeping forms in the collection are made primarily from aluminum, some with added translucent [14] panels. Their crisp silhouettes [15] seem to hover from the ceiling, balance on the table, or pose on the wall.
The pucks that are inside these fixtures hold three LumiLed Luxeon Rebel [16] LEDs, which are high output, cool to the touch, and available in colors mimicking warm incandescents. The LEDs [17] will last 20 year and never need to be changed, cutting down on maintenance [18]. An added feature is that the majority of the fixtures in the line are also dimmable.
