The old adage that quality is better than quantity definitely applies to this incredible one-storey home in Amsterdam. The homeowner, a Japanese man, called for a design that is not only clean and minimalist, but that makes nature a focal point. With very little space to work with, i29 Architects solved the client's challenge by orienting the entire home towards a dramatic green wall.
The kitchen and wardrobe space are situated close to the entrance while the bedroom and bathroom are tucked towards the back of the house, giving the owners more privacy. Apart from smatterings of wood finishings that further emphasize the focus on nature, the whitewashed interior contrasts beautifully with the dark, leafy green wall.
Typical of modest Japanese culture, Home 06 demonstrates that neither size nor money are relevant to classy, inspiring, and sustainable architecture. We absolutely love this design.
