When interiors company Miso [4] was commissioned to design the table displays for a traditional Japanese paper store, there was no doubt about the material selection. Designed to be collapsible, lightweight, and flexible, these elegant tables are made from folded [5] paper with a round acrylic top. Created for Suzuki Shofudo’s [6] long-established store in Kyoto, these accordion tables and lamps are simple, sustainable, and gorgeous displays and lighting solutions.

Easy to make and flexible enough to transport and fit anywhere within the shop, these accordion [7] designs were inspired by Japanese fans [8]. After months of testing the strength of different papers, Miso designer Hiromitsu Konishi came up with a design that perfectly balances the delicate material’s flexibility and strength. It’s a great solution for a traditional Japanese paper shop that knows that simple is best.
