Gallery: MIT’s Amazing Festival of Art Features Floating Orbs, Mood Rea...

The inflatables by Kyle Barker, Juan Jofne, Nick Polansky, and Jorge Amaya comprise silver nylon balloons that expose a set of invisible forces that shape our indoor experience including doorway drafts, heat from light bulbs, and the motion of passersby.

This incredible installation demonstrates what happens when art, science and technology merge on behalf of the planet. Most of the designs feature energy efficient technologies or materials and open passersby up to the endless creativity human beings can tap into. The end of FAST will kick off tomorrow night with the much-anticipated SKY event during which participants will fly a large-scale, brightly lit star over Killian Court!

A few of our favorites include the large-scale origami made from folded polypropylene, DisCourse, made from hundreds of components cut by water jet from thin aluminum and tied together with zip ties. The Mood Meter measures the happiness of people at the fair, while the incredible Wind Screen by Meejin Yoon features small wind turbines that generate and consume energy.
