Gallery: Mitsubishi’s i-MIEV Electric Car Grabs the “Greenest” Vehicle ...

The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) just released its 14th annual comprehensive environmental rankings, and this year’s list shows some surprising results. The council has compiled a list of what it feels are the “greenest” vehicles, and for the first time in eight years an electric vehicle has grabbed the top spot – the Mitsubishi i-MIEV.

For the past eight years the Honda Civic Natural Gas (formally Civic GX) held the top spot in the “Greenest” vehicle list, but this year the Mitsubishi i-MIEV electric vehicle claimed the title. Even better, the i-MIEV earned a Green Score of 58, which is the highest Green Score awarded since the rankings began in 1998. With a combined city and highway fuel economy of 112 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe), the i-MIEV is more efficient than all other vehicles currently sold in U.S. The Mitsubishi i-MIEV starts at $29,125 for the base ES model before the $7,500 federal tax credit is applied.

The Honda Civic Natural Gas and Nissan Leaf electric vehicle tied for the second spot, and the Toyota Prius, the Honda Insight, and the Smart ForTwo filled out the top six spots.
