Levy and Stott spent 6 years working in prefab design and building with Marmol Radziner, and realized that there were a lot of problems in the industry. So they set out to fix those problems by starting their own company with a strategy that more efficiently builds homes in the factory setting and bringing down the cost of shipping with smaller modules. Connect:Homes is an LA-based prefab company based on a patent pending modular system that cuts delivery costs by close to 90%. The goal was to develop a home that could be shipped anywhere with normal truck transport without breaking the bank, and based on the renderings, we think they might be on to something.
Connect:Homes offers up a range of 1-4 bedroom homes with a decidedly modern style. Customize the exterior and interior with a metal, steel, wood and different finishes. Every home is designed to meet LEED Platinum status as well as CalGreen Tier 2 standards and owners can opt to make the home net zero as well. Energy efficient appliances and systems, a tight high performing envelope, water efficient fixtures, recycled and renewable materials all round out the sustainability strategy.
Although the firm hasn’t completed a house yet, you can see a prototype house this summer. Connect:Homes will display a 640 sq ft, 1 bedroom Connect:2 pop-up house at Dwell on Design in Los Angeles from June 22-24, 2012.
