Located on the southeast tip of Sicily in Italy, Casa Talia is the perfect place to spend some time living life at a slower pace. Designed and managed by architects Viviana Haddad y Marco Giunta, this Moroccan style accommodation was created by restoring twelve small houses into six suites set around a central Mediterranean garden . Made from recycled materials and locally sourced wood and stone and decorated with artisans’ furniture, Casa Talia is a great place to unwind while enjoying the Italian lifestyle and culture.
Casa Talia stands high within Sicily’s Modica , a historic city that has been named a Unesco Heritage Site . Its owners have tastefully outfitted it with a strong Moroccan influence and bioclimatic building systems like an automated centralized system that controls and optimizes electricity usage. All of the rooms face a central Mediterranean garden that provides a luscious green environment for admiring amazing views of the old city.
The architects chose to work with local materials and the entire project was designed in accordance with ecological and social principles. The roof was built using local bamboo , the walls are made of stone and lime plaster, and the floors have been decorated with recycled Arabic tiles or stone from the island. To top it all off, the furniture is either recycled or custom-made by local artisans and wood workers.
If you are travelling around the south of Italy and fancy a bit of a slow life within a gorgeous restored atmosphere, you should consider spending some time at Modica’s Casa Talia .
