Gallery: MVRDV Breaks Ground on Green-Roofed Business District at Shang...

Earlier this year, Dutch architecture firm MVRDV won an international competition to design a new business district at Shanghai Hongqiao Airport. Now, just weeks after winning the competition, construction has already begun on the 4.5-hectare mega-development. The new pedestrian-friendly aerotropolis will include 10 new office buildings, an underground shopping center, underground parking, and a new plaza. The office buildings will be self-shading, which will reduce the need for air conditioning, and each of the energy-efficient buildings will be topped with a green roof.
