I write about clean energy and subscribe to all sorts of RSS feeds, including Inhabitat's. My primary suggestion: POST LESS! Be more selective in your news choices, and skip the so-so ones. Some readers might balk, but most are more like myself: they'd like more pared-down news sources. I find the huge volume of Inhabitat postings intimidating, and when I get behind, I'm more likely to just mark them as all read and skip them altogether.

This goes with my other recommendation: read less! Drop those feeds and newsletters that overwhelm you without giving you much in the way of news. Also, drop the ones that tend to tell you what you already know.

Last but not least: pick times when you're "at work" and times when you're "with family," and don't try to do both at once. Don't go grabbing that laptop or Blackberry during a lull in the conversation, as that's the one thing that's sure to kill any conversation. Close the lid and put it away!

Jill, yes this makes a BIG difference. Not fair to them. Good luck with the balancing act. Remember: priorities change often, sometimes day-to-day. Hope they understand that you are trying and will be supportive.
A crabby frustrated Mom/Wife is no fun.
Happy New Year.

Hey GoingLikeSixty!

I am passionate about my work and passions are great things - but when I say 'Family' I mean husband and kid - so yeah - I have to work less. As much as I love my work my son and family comes first. And I don't think you realize what kind of problem I have (does writing this at 11pm at night help explain?)

Best wishes to all for 2010!
Jill

My resolution this year is to repair my clothing that is wearing out but would still be very wearable without holes in some unfortunate places.

For anyone who wants real help in achieving their resolutions so that 2010 is their best year ever, please join the community of like-minded individuals who are members of The Last Year Of Your Life Program. The theory is simple: live the next 52 weeks as if they were going to be your last -- and see what happens. We use the tools of community, inspection, accountability, inspiration, and acknowledgement to help each other get the very most from every single day. The results are incredible!

Check it out at www.TheLastYearOfYourLife.com

Here's hoping that the next year is your best yet!

Sincerely, Clint Arthur

Why would you leave your passion? Unless your family is a marriage and kids, then I understand why you might need to back down a little.

But what possibly can be more challenging and rewarding that writing what you love?

Balance is for weenies. :) and overrated.; Unless it's killing the ones you love or you. Grind it out dude.
