NAIAS 2013: Mercedes Unveils Sleek New CLA Class Compact Sedan in Detroit

Mercedes-Benz ^[6] revealed not only its E-Class ^[7] lineup at the 2013 North American International Auto Show ^[8] this week, but the company also confirmed its newest and smallest car for the U.S. - the CLA Class. Set to hit the market this year, the CLA Class is Mercedes' new entry-level model, designed to make the brand more accessible to buyers interested in smaller ^[9] and more efficient cars ^[10], and we can't wait for this car to come to market, even though it's not a hybrid.

The CLA Class retains styling cues from Mercedes’ Concept Style Coupe ^[11] unveiled last year in Beijing, with an interior and front end similar to the brand’s European A Class hatch. The vehicle is just 15 feet long, with space for four inside or an optional fifth. The first models to launch will be crucial to the brand’s success in the growing compact vehicle market and will feature a turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder gas engine with 211 horsepower and a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with over 330 horsepower, plus possibly a 2.1-liter diesel. Expect the new CLA Class to hit U.S. showrooms by mid-2013 as a 2014 model and to change the face of compact cars in America.
