Gallery: NAIAS 2013: Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-Cell Hydrogen Car Rocks It...

You would not believe how hard it is to find a fuel cell vehicle available for a test drive. That's because most of these high-tech green cars are leased to a select few test owners, and the infrastructure isn't in place for most people to drive them successfully.

You would not believe how hard it is to find a fuel cell vehicle available for a test drive. That's because most of these high-tech green cars are leased to a select few test owners, and the infrastructure isn't in place for most people to drive them successfully. That's why we were so excited to see a Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-Cell hydrogen car at the Aisin Green Drive Experience test track at the Detroit Auto Show this week. They let us loose on the track for a few quick and totally silent spins, and we loved it. What's not to love (other than the pesky infrastructure thing) about a car whose only emissions are water, that can drive 240 miles on a 3-minute hydrogen fill-up, and has a top speed of over 100 miles per hour?

These cars are only currently available in Germany, Norway, and California. But we still can ogle over the 136-horsepower, 214 lb-ft powertrain. The fact is, we just love this car. It’s pretty simple inside. Don’t expect too much Mercedes luxury here, but the drive is great, and you’re looking at 71.3 mpg on hydrogen fuel. Electric love.
