Gallery: NAIAS 2013: Volkswagen Debuts...

Volkswagen revealed its brand-new Crossblue Concept plug-in hybrid SUV today at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. This is the vehicle's global debut, and it was an impressive showing. The Crossblue boasts seating for six, a diesel-electric plug-in hybrid powertrain with 35 mpg combined, and 89 mpge in electric mode.
 

The Crossblue Concept packs 306 horsepower, 516 pound-feet of torque, and 0 to 60 time estimated at 7.0 seconds. We love how automakers are going larger with their plugin hybrid concepts (such as Volvo’s XC60 plugin SUV from last year). The all-electric mode range is only 14 miles, so expect this vehicle to function as a hybrid more than an extended-range EV.
