Nanoparticles Create Ultra-Vibrant LED Screens

OLEDs  may be the future of lighting technology, but LEDs are here to stay for the foreseeable future. To that end, a startup called Nanosys  has created a nanomaterial coating that makes colors on LED backlit displays more vibrant, all while preserving the energy efficiency of normal LEDs .
The process works by adding a phosphor  material made out of nanoparticles to standard blue LEDs. The nanoparticles can add virtually any hue to a display — but with improved color saturation compared to regular LED displays.
Nanosys claims that its nanoparticles are easy to add to existing LED production lines, so it shouldn’t be long before ultra-vibrant colors hit a screen near you. Early adopters can look forward to products containing Nanosys’ technology as early as this year.
