The San Luis Obispo-based artisan furnishings company Native Trails [2] celebrates culture and the environment by creating inspiring bathroom and kitchen furnishings and fixtures with natural and sustainable materials. For the company’s Vintner’s Collection [3], Native Trails has produced a line of vanities and accessories made from salvaged winemaking materials. The collection of unique sinks in the Central Coast of California [4] celebrates the wine culture by repurposing French and domestic oak barrels into fine vanities, wet bars and mirrors.

The Vintner’s Collection includes such creatively-named products as the Chardonnay Vanity, Cabernet Vanity, Bordeaux Mirror and Bordeaux Wall Mount. The Cabernet and Chardonnay vanities are made from reclaimed oaking staves used in the modern fermentation process, and these storage-heavy pieces are ideal for family living and day-to-day use. The colors of the wood are enriched due to the coloring of the wines, and the vanities are finished with low-VOC finishes and custom blended waxes.

The Bordeaux Wall Mount is the most versatile piece that Native Trails offers. This piece can be adapted to bathrooms, wet bars, and cellars. It is made from reclaimed wine barrels [6] and gives a wonderful aesthetic that can match almost any architectural styling of a home or business. The original barrel maker’s stamp can be seen on most of the accessory mirrors, too! The Bordeaux Wall Mount was recognized by the Decorative Plumbing and Hardware Association [7] in 2011 as the Innovative Furniture Product of the Year.

The eco-friendly products created in all of Native Trails’ furnishing lines are part of the company’s commitment to the environment and the artisan. Their products are handcrafted by true artisans from sustainable and recycled materials. Skilled woodworkers, coppersmiths, and other craftsmen are using age-old techniques in an era where generations of these workers are dying away. But with the hard work of the Native Trails’ staff, artisan products will return to prominence. Native Trails has become one of the leading manufacturers of handcrafted bath and kitchen products in the world, and it continues to grow.
