I witnessed the total devastation caused by unexpected magnitude of Tsunami in East Japan 2 years as a part of Tokyo Institute of Technology team. We have learned a lot of lessons from the tragedy. We really need to use the knowledge to mitigate the risk in North West coast line in US. Then 20,000 lost lives and countless lost cities in Tohoku will not be in vain.
