Bisphenol A , a compound found in many hard plastic bottles and cans, is one of the most pervasive chemicals in the modern world. The chemical has been detected in the bodily fluids of more than 90 percent of the human population, and now a new research study published in the journal Molecular Endocrinology points to a possible link between in utero BPA exposure and increased risk of breast cancer. In the study, which was conducted with mice, researchers from the Swiss Institute for Experimental Cancer Research concluded that exposure to BPA can alter an individual’s long-term hormone response, which can increase the risk of breast cancer.
